Tune by sight or by ear with a chromatic and instrument tuner, metronome, reference drone, strobe display, and historical temperaments. The pitch detector is based on the YIN method and implemented from scratch.

Pitch you can trust

Find the fundamental — harmonic-rich instruments read as the note being played rather than a nearby overtone.
Cover the musical range — tune from A0 through C8 using a built-in microphone or an audio interface up to 192 kHz.
Reject noise — the display remains blank until the signal contains a stable, periodic pitch.
Read a steady needle — small fluctuations are damped, note changes register quickly, and a plucked note remains visible long enough to read.

Tune the instrument in front of you

Choose an instrument — use tunings for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, and banjo, or remain in chromatic mode.
Use alternate tunings — choose options including Drop D, DADGAD, open tunings, low-G ukulele, and five-string bass.
Follow the nearest string — instrument mode identifies the target string as well as the note.
Account for transposition — display written pitch for capo, B♭, and E♭ instruments without changing the measured frequency.
Calibrate the reference — set A4 from 415 to 466 Hz, with one-tap return to 440 Hz.

Historical and just temperaments

Choose Equal, Just Intonation, Pythagorean, Quarter-comma Meantone, Werckmeister III, or Kirnberger III.
Set the tonic for an unequal temperament and let each target follow its exact ratio.

Practice with a metronome and drone

Keep steady time — sample-scheduled clicks support 30 to 300 BPM, accented measures, and common subdivisions.
Tap the tempo — tap a pulse and follow your position through the measure.
Hold a reference pitch — play a drone at any note and octave, or match it to the note the tuner currently hears.
Blend by ear — adjust the drone beneath the instrument and listen as the beats between pitches settle.

Choose how you see pitch

Needle or strobe — use a direct cents gauge or concentric bands that slow as the pitch approaches its target.
Pitch history — on iPhone and iPad, a scrolling ribbon shows how intonation changes over time.
Live spectrum — inspect the harmonics present in the signal while you play.
Haptic confirmation — feel a gentle pulse on iPhone when the note reaches the center.
Accessible controls — use keyboard shortcuts on Mac and spoken gauge values with VoiceOver.
