Writing music, without the fight

• Choose pitches, durations, rests, and bars from a simple palette. Drag a notehead to change its pitch and keep it in key.
• On Mac, use the keyboard to move the selection, adjust pitch, duplicate notes, and delete them. On iPhone and iPad, use touch.
• Play a melody on the built-in piano keyboard and watch it land on the staff as notation, with the rhythms, chords, rests, ties, and accidentals worked out.
• ABC tunes remain plain text underneath, so you can edit the source directly whenever that is faster.

Opens what musicians actually trade

• ABC tunes and whole tunebooks — a collection opens with a searchable list, so a thousand-tune book is as easy to move around as one jig.
• MusicXML from major notation apps, compressed or not, plus MEI and standard MIDI files.

• Files are recognized by what’s inside them, not by their name — a mislabeled download still opens.

Practice with it

• Play any tune back, from half speed while your fingers learn it up to double speed.
• Loop the hard passage, keep time with the metronome, and start each take with a count-in.
• See any tune as tablature — guitar, bass, ukulele, or mandolin. Adjust a fret, move a note to another string without changing its pitch, and mark playing techniques.
